Some of the DocClean functions that can either be invoked manually (as needed), or called automatically include the detection and removal of blank pages, blobs, speckles and hole-punch circles. Combined with the existing document manipulation capabilities of Snowbound’s base RasterMaster library, document processing is greatly enhanced with the ability to straighten or rotate skewed scanned images through auto invert, auto orient and deskew capabilities.

ARAG Automates & Streamlines Insurance Claims Processes

Allgemeine Rechtsschutz Versicherungs-Aktien-Gesellschaft (ARAG) is an international leader in legal insurance with over 6.5 million policies in existence worldwide. In the past, a 50-person sorting team classified and distributed incoming mail throughout their Dusseldorf corporate offices, but the growing complexity and expense of physical processing and archiving led them to adopt an electronic system.

After reviewing solution options, ARAG selected RasterMaster Java SDK to display documents, generate document thumbnails, switch between pages in multi-page TIFF documents, extract metadata, divide / merge multiple documents, and many other vital processing capabilities to automate and streamline their insurance claim processing.

RasterMaster .NET SDK Breathes New Life into Hospital’s Records System

Jefferson Regional Medical Center (JRMC) is the fourth largest medical center in Arkansas with a patient base of approximately 280,000 spanning 11 counties.

When someone is admitted to the hospital, their patient information is entered into the hospital information system (HIS) system during registration, making it easy for hospital staff to access details on any previous visits, including scanned and imported images, as it’s critical to have the ability to search and view available patient information quickly.

Although the system didn’t require a lot of support, the IT team couldn’t do anything more with it. There were no more new releases, updates, or functionality coming that would enable them to provide enhancements for their clinical and administrative users.

USPS Uses RasterMaster to Comply With Federal Anti-money Laundering/Anti-terrorist Regulations

The United States Postal Service (USPS) delivers, on average, over one million money orders each day after the Federal Reserve clears them for processing.  Because there are no required standards for the image formats submitted, the USPS must be able to read the multiple formats as well as convert the files to a standard format for viewing and archiving. Of the one million images received each day, on average, 10,000 require file conversion.  To meet the demands of the market, and to ensure that the funds are transferred in time, the conversion process must be accurate and instantaneous.   A delay could jeopardize the process of daily business and have economic consequences.

The USPS leveraged Snowbound’s flagship RasterMaster Java SDK document imaging toolkit to develop a comprehensive and robust document image conversion program that converts multiple file formats.

In the past, the 64 bit software arena was reserved for scientific and engineering workstations but  today more and more client systems are expected to be able to handle very large files and images – for example documents that include very large image files or CAD drawings. There is also a growing need for client applications to have access to more than 4 gigabytes of memory for optimum performance. Since this can’t be supported by any 32-bit Operating System, there is growing momentum towards 64-bit OS (Windows 7) and software.

The advantage of 64-bit applications is the ability to access more memory and larger files for faster searches and data retrieval. Developers making the leap from 32-bit to 64-bit can dramatically improve the performance of such demanding and complex applications. By actually doubling the amount of data that can be processed for certain scientific or database applications, programmers have much more power to utilize, and can thereby revolutionize the performance and capabilities of server and desktop software.

To take full advantage of 64-bit processors, applications need to be compiled using 64-bit code and run on a 64-bit operating system. For many server applications, it makes sense to compile and run as 64-bit code for performance advantages, both due to the larger addressable memory, and the processor internally using 64 bit data.
