Hampden County Registry of Deeds Taps Snowbound to Accelerate Document Access By 50% (3/18/13)

Waltham, MA. (3/18/13) - Snowbound Software, the market leader in document viewing and conversion solutions, today announced that the Hampden County, MA Registry of Deeds has increased both document access speed and clarity utilizing its VirtualViewer HTML5 solution (formely VirtualViewer AJAX).

Document management and enhanced productivity are key areas of importance for the Hampden County Registry of Deeds. Last year alone, the Registry recorded 98,467 documents—an 18 percent increase from 2011—and also grew in revenue, collecting nearly $13 million during the 2012 calendar year, a 14 percent increase over 2011.

As Register of one of the most efficient and technologically advanced Registries in Massachusetts, Donald E. Ashe turned to Snowbound’s VirtualViewer HTML5 for the viewing, printing, and exporting of all documents on the registry’s website. Ashe was frustrated by limitations of other viewers and turned to Snowbound to streamline document accessing and processing. Since implementing VirtualViewer, the Registry of Deeds has seen 50 percent faster loading times from its previous viewer, as well as improved image and document clarity.

Using Snowbound’s pure HTML VirtualViewer, Hampden County’s website users are able to access over 175 different document types—ranging from affidavits to land deeds—from any web browser. From there, users can manipulate the respective documents for their viewing, printing and exporting needs; for example, inverting and zooming for better clarity, searching by page number, printing, and exporting the documents as either PDF or TIFF files. Drawing on VirtualViewer’s mobile document viewing capabilities, numerous users—including lawyers, police officers, realtors, title examiners, colleges, historians, and residential owners—are able to access critical information on the go.

In addition to daily recordings, Register Ashe has initiated a project to digitize all of the historic records that were obtained when the County offices closed. These documents include the original documentation of railroad plans, county roads, county Highways, and dams.

Snowbound’s VirtualViewer HTML5 document viewer is a pure HTML document viewing solution enabling file retrieval through a universal Web application. It does not require any client-side installation or plug-ins such as Flash, Adobe, or Office. VirtualViewer HTML5 works with any standard browser, provides on-the-go mobile document viewing, and delivers flexible cross-platform support. It is available for both Java and .NET (x32 or x64).

“We are always looking to adopt new technologies that will help make the process of accessing and interacting with documents an easier and more enjoyable experience for our users,” said Ashe. “Snowbound helped us achieve that.”

“We were attracted to an affordable, zero footprint solution that didn’t require a download and presented users with the fewest possible ‘clicks’ to print or export a document,” said Gregory Rogers, Director of Management Information Systems at Hampden County Registry of Deeds. “Snowbound’s VirtualViewer was very easy to install on our end, as well. It took less than 30 minutes.”

“At Snowbound, we believe technology that is easy to implement and fast to reward the customer is of the greatest benefit to the industries we serve,” said Simon Wieczner, President and Chief Executive Officer at Snowbound Software. “We have worked tirelessly at making our VirtualViewer work with any browser, allowing municipalities to serve their population any documents necessary with efficiency and minimal support. We find it extremely rewarding that Hampden County was able to benefit so quickly.”
