Zmanda new backup system will support SharePoint

by | Feb 18, 2009

Zmanda''s new system will offer an open source backup recovery system and cloud support for SharePoint. In a move that is expected to cut costs for many companies already using cloud computing for services like enterprise content management, Zmanda will soon offer an open source backup recovery system and cloud support for SharePoint.

The upgrade to Amanda Enterprise 3.0 will include live backup agents for items like Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007, PostgreSQL, and EnterpriseDB’s Postgres Plus product family which will allow users to perform hot backups without affecting users and applications – measures designed to increase productivity.

Because Zmanda agents will provide uniform backup methods across all platforms, users won”t be required to keep-up-to-date with ever-changing methodologies.

"The latest release of Amanda Enterprise introduces media and cloud enhancements that provide alternatives for how and where applications and data are protected and how customers pay for it," said Lauren Whitehouse, analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "Given the economic climate, Zmanda may provide a welcome relief to customers’ backup ails."

The upgrade is currently in beta testing but is expected to be released in a month. Zmanda says prices will start at $100 per client and $300 per application agent.ADNFCR-1861-ID-19031193-ADNFCR
