A recent ZDNet report highlighted the growing importance of Microsoft SharePoint for many companies around the world.
Microsoft’s operating chief Kevin Turner recently spoke at the company’s financial analyst meeting and stated that SharePoint remains a key product line. In fact, Turner believes the collaboration software has reached a point where its adoption rate is similar to that of Facebook for social media enthusiasts.
“SharePoint is the fastest selling commercial business product of all time in the history of Microsoft,” said Turner, according to ZDNet. “Fastest to a billion dollars. It’s viral in most companies. It’s become the Facebook for the enterprise. And it’s absolutely got tremendous momentum that pulls a lot of the Microsoft suite with it.”
A study released last month by Enterprise Strategy Group also pointed to increased use of Microsoft SharePoint across the enterprise. Of the more than 3,100 IT professionals from North America and western Europe surveyed, 64 percent indicated their companies use the collaboration software. Also, 12 percent of participants said their organizations plan to start using SharePoint in the next year.
