Last week on one of its blogs, Microsoft announced that it would be expanding SharePoint support in Visual Studios 2010.
According to his blog, S. Somasegar, the vice president of the developer division at Microsoft, said Visual Studio 2010 will expand SharePoint support in two areas.
"First, Visual Studio 2010 will deliver a broad set of project templates, designers, and deployment infrastructure that will make any .NET developer instantly more productive on the SharePoint platform," wrote Somasegar. "Second, we are exposing an extensibility API that will continue to foster the ecosystem of third party developers who create development tools and technologies."
Somasegar also says the WSP Importer will allow users to import SharePoint content and navigate SharePoint sites more quickly and easily using the Server Explorer.
It is expected by people within the industry that Visual Studios 2010 will be released before the end of 2009.
Earlier this month Microsoft announced that it would be taking advantage of its $1.2 billion purchase of Norwegian company Fast Search & Transfer ASA by implementing Fast Search technology into the next generation of SharePoint.
