As mobile devices become more common, a growing number of people are using them for things that were once thought only to be possible on laptops and PCs. It seems that with the next generation of cell phone software from Microsoft, SharePoint will be one of those features.
News reports indicate that SharePoint will be one of the major parts of the Windows Phone 7 Series when the mobile operating system is finally released. This may be part of Microsoft”s push to gain portions of the enterprise mobile market which has been dominated by Research in Motion”s Blackberry – and to a smaller extent Apple”s iPhone.
PC World”s David Coursey writes that the emphasis on enterprise content management solution SharePoint might result in an increase in business users – especially C-Level ones.
"My bet is that these will become key reasons for business users to upgrade to Windows Phone 7, but that will remain to be seen as details of the new smartphone OS continue to unfold in coming months," he wrote.
The company unveiled the new operating system this week at a conference in Barcelona, Spain.
