The number of users adding Microsoft SharePoint is currently 20,000 per day, said Microsoft director of SharePoint product management Jared Spataro, according to a recent ZDNet report.
This adds up to a yearly total of 7.3 million users adopting the collaboration software, which was launched in March 2001. According to Spataro, this trend has been the norm for five years.
Microsoft will release SharePoint 15 around same time as the next Office product, which is scheduled to hit the market in 2013, the article stated.
“SharePoint – in case you aren’t among its customers or partners who are deploying, maintaining and fixing it – is the server sibling of Office,” wrote ZDNet’s Mary-Jo Foley. “It is a collection of six different servers bundled into a single back-end that provide content management, enterprise social networking, intranet search, portal creation and management and collaboration.”
Global 360 recently conducted research on SharePoint 2010’s market penetration. According to the study, the software has increased dramatically since August, when it represented 8 percent of the market. Currently, SharePoint 2010 accounts for 44 percent of the market and has surpassed SharePoint 2007.
