Technology may have helped businesses operate more efficiently than in previous years, but it has also led to the influx of more data that companies must manage effectively.
According to a recent FierceContentManagement report by contributing writer Eric Barroca, big data has resulted in new challenges regarding enterprise content management technology.
“The sheer numbers, which are covered in most ECM analyst reports, also extend to all aspects of the information technology sector, prompting developers to create a new generation of software and technology or distributed computing frameworks in an effort to cope with this scalability phenomenon,” wrote Barroca.
To address this growing concern, the news provider indicated that ECM experts must develop solutions that are able to be tweaked moving forward.
The development of big data and smart content that helps make applications more intelligent are evolutions and not revolutions within the industry, according to Barroca.
The market for ECM solutions is expected to grow in the near future as more small- and medium-sized businesses adopt the systems. According to a study released earlier this year by market intelligence firm TechNavio, the global ECM industry is projected to surpass $9 billion by 2014.
