In an effort to gain what it calls a next-generation content archiving solution, Boston Medical Center announced this week that it was using Mimosa NearPoint which handles email, file and SharePoint archiving.
The medical center, which is the primary teaching center for the Boston University School of Medicine, says it chose NearPoint because it was looking to be proactive about its eDiscovery approach with Brad Blake, the center”s director of IT, saying its need to meet Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) requirements was a major issue.
"The FRCP requirements turned email into a critical business record," he said. "Our legal and HR departments now require the ability to discover all aspects of information within our Exchange email environment. Not just emails, but calendar items, task information as well as deletions, so that they can produce an accurate history of each business record as part of an eDiscovery request."
There is an increasing need for companies to consider the cost and time associated with eDiscovery as courts continue to ask for more information from companies during litigation.
Attorney Ralph Losey recently told InformationWeek that the typical lawsuit costs companies $10 million on eDiscovery.
