Enterprise content management firm Open Text has announced that it is increasing its focus on web services, the latest development of which can be seen in its recent acquisition of Vignette, a web-focused enterprise content management company.
The acquisition will broaden Open Text”s web services portfolio – which will feature web publishing applications and e-business platforms – and will integrate installed Vignette users into Open Text”s web services.
"The new demands of social and digital media, and fast-growing user expectations for more personalized web interactions are placing enormous pressures on customers to keep up," said John Shackleton, president and CEO of Open Text. "This is an important area of innovation for us going forward."
In addition to Vignette”s web content management tools, Open Text plans to "leverage other key components of Vignette”s product portfolio," the details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.
The acquisition was valued at approximately $321 million, Open Text announced.
An increasing number of businesses, in enterprise content management and beyond, are expected to increase their focus on web services in future years, as the number of global internet users continues to climb – according to Forrester Research, the number will grow more than 45 percent to reach 2.2 billion users over the next five years.
