Hyland Software has expanded to provide enterprise content management solutions to more than 1,000 healthcare facilities across the globe, the company announced recently.
Hyland says its ECM platform OnBase can put complete electronic medical records to meaningful use. The system integrates EMR data with clinical content, like electrocardiogram test results, with information from paper-based content, like faxes and scans.
Susan deCathelineau, healthcare manager for Hyland Software, says ECM systems help healthcare providers move beyond simply filing away an EMR to deliver unstructured content in a usable manner.
"Healthcare providers imagine an ideal electronic health record that paints the full patient care picture," says deCathelineau. "An EMR alone simply can”t do that. More often, providers are seeing a clear line forming between what EMRs handle well – structured data – and what ECM solutions like OnBase do – integrate the unstructured content to create a more complete patient record. Providers aren”t just thinking about ECM as an application. They”re making it a critical part of their electronic health record strategy."
The company reported a 19 percent year-over-year growth in ECM services provided to the healthcare industry.
Along with OnBase, Sharepoint ECM is also being used by healthcare facilities. In early 2010, the Los Angeles County Children”s Medical Services implemented a Documentum-based case management system.
