Microsoft SharePoint 2010 used to develop NHL scouting solution

by | May 13, 2010

The Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League recently developed an application with SharePoint 2010 to improve their scouting operations.A newly developed solution, designed using Microsoft SharePoint 2010, is being used by the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League to make their scouting operations more efficient. The solution, called Scout Portal, allows teams to manage and organize their player information databases with highly customizable settings.

The Oilers hired Habanero Consulting to design the product in conjunction with Microsoft to make their scouting databases easier to use. The design is similar to popular social networking websites and provides in-depth profiles along with video taken by scouts in the field. The solution allows scouts to upload information and video samples, so others within the organization can make decisions on players.

"The technology allows scouts to browse player videos online, read detailed player stats and review comments made by each of the scouts – all in real time. Previously it took days for questions or discussions to be resolved," Habanero senior consultant Rick Martin said.

Microsoft Canada used the development of Scouting Portal to announce the official enterprise release to Canada at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario on May 12, according to IT Business Canada. At the event, representatives from the Oilers, Habanero and Microsoft discussed the development of Scouting Portal.ADNFCR-1861-ID-19777155-ADNFCR
