Yesterday Microsoft, makers of SharePoint, and EMC, makers of Documentum, announced a three-year deal which will continue their partnership through 2011.
At an event for CIOs and other IT professionals Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and EMC president and CEO Joe Tucci explained their collaborative efforts and why they are stil lworking as partners.
"Microsoft and EMC are committed to working together to create enterprise infrastructure technologies that will help businesses build extremely efficient and agile IT systems," said Ballmer.
The collaborative effort of the two companies, which has been going on for more than a decade, allows users to link the Documentum platform with Microsoft platforms like SharePoint, Outlook and SQL Server.
"Today marks the next phase in this evolution. The companies remain committed to delivering solutions that blend Microsoft”s technology with EMC”s information infrastructure portfolio, spanning across virtualization, storage, IT resource and content management, security products and consulting services."
Tucci told CNET in an interview after the announcement that their partnership not only allows brings together two important aspects of enterprise content management, but also makes for a more secure system.
