Majority of businesses believe SharePoint is essential

by | Jul 31, 2012

The Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) recently conducted a survey of 551 organizations regarding their feelings toward the enterprise content management solution Microsoft SharePoint.

AIIM found that nearly 70 percent of companies consider SharePoint essential for their operations, and implementation of the solution is generally made by IT managers or CIOs. The top reasons behind SharePoint deployment include improved collaboration, establishment of an intranet and file share replacement initiatives.

AIIM president John Mancini said many organizations have an opportunity to preview SharePoint 2013 and evaluate the platform’s functionality.

“This presents a perfect opportunity for IT to engage with the CEO to ensure that corporate strategy and business drivers are identified and in place so that additional SharePoint investment is aligned with the business to deliver the appropriate pay off,” Mancini said.

In addition to Microsoft’s SharePoint solution, the demand for all ECM solutions is expected to continue into the near future, as more businesses identify the technology as essential to their operations. A recent study conducted by the Radicati Group said that global ECM revenue is projected to grow from $4.4 billion in 2012 to more than $7.5 billion by 2016.
