Throughout 2010, the ECM world has been focused on Open Text and Microsoft SharePoint, as the solutions most likely to positively impact adopting companies. However, earlier this year, EMC announced its solution, Documentum, will be refocused to leverage the growth of cloud computing in the enterprise IT world.
According to IT Business Edge, EMC has been fairly quiet since the announcement earlier this summer. But the company plans to aggressively push its new cloud-based version of Documentum in 2011. Whitney Tidmarsh, chief marketing officer for EMC’s Information Intelligence Group, told the news provider its effort will likely include Documentum, eDiscovery solutions and text analytics.
While the news provider reports it is difficult to assess the actual plans of the company as the level of success they may enjoy, 2011 could become a landmark year for the company.
Making Documentum available as a SaaS application will likely help EMC in terms of customer retention. A report from Gartner found 95 percent of companies using SaaS plan to maintain or continue their investment in the technology through 2010.
