Security is a growing issue for users of enterprise content management (ECM) solutions, but EMC has announced a new tool which adds to the security of Microsoft”s SharePoint server.

EMC, working with its security arm, RSA, says its new solution addresses the issues that crop up in the SharePoint environment and gives users the ability to measure risk from their own SharePoint solution.

Christopher Young, senior vice president of products at RSA, says that in today”s enterprise environment, it is not only important to keep information secure but to make sure the right people have access to it.

"RSA Secure View tool for Microsoft SharePoint is engineered to reveal which users and groups have access to valuable information within the SharePoint environment and help to bridge the gap between business and security professionals to gain the most from the company”s investment in SharePoint services," he said.

Recent studies have shown that security is a major issue for companies using ECM, but many are not taking the proper steps to avoid breaches.

According to a report earlier this year from Information Architected, 40 percent of companies said they were unaware of the size of their SharePoint deployment.
