Users of EMC software could find their document capture capabilities boosted in the latest versions of its programs, reports Image and Data Manager (IDM).
The publication explains that EMC is aiming to tackle the issue of overwhelming paper records for companies with an increasing number of documents to handle.
Vice-president of worldwide marketing for content management and archiving Whitney Tidmarsh tells IDM: "Without an effective enterprise capture solution, organizations struggle with the inefficiencies and expenses of processing paper."
The spokesperson adds that these inefficiencies are also associated with "difficulties in managing risk and complying with regulations as well as the inability to deliver good customer service".
However, by eliminating the costs put towards filing and retrieving paper documents, "staggering" reductions in expenditure are identified.
One solution could be to digitize all paper records, using a document viewer and centralized database to retrieve information quickly and easily when it is needed.
EMC has looked to streamline the document capture process itself with the release of Captiva InputAccel 6 and Dispatcher 6, notes IDM.
The firm”s general manager for SharePoint technologies, Andrew Chapman, recently advised that firms considering whether they should extend their standard SharePoint installation might be wise to do so sooner rather than later.
He explained that the need for extra enterprise content management applications – such as a document viewer or image conversion tool – might not be a question of if, but when.
