Companies unaware of size of Sharepoint deployment

by | Feb 28, 2009

A new study finds companies are unaware how large their SharePoint deployment isMicrosoft SharePoint is one of the fastest growing programs for businesses, but one new study finds that many companies are allowing the enterprise content management solution to run rampant.

The study conducted by Information Architected found that although most companies limited the use of SharePoint to inside the firewall because of a fear of security, inside the firewall the application was left unmanaged by most organizations.

Of the more than 600 organizations polled in the survey, 40 percent said they stopped using Sharepoint because of security issues while another 40 percent said they were unaware of how large the company”s SharePoint deployment was.

Carl Frappaolo, Information Architected co-founder and author of the study said that although SharePoint is popular, it still needs some oversight from companies.

"SharePoint is simple to implement initially, but that does not mean that good business governance and planning are not needed," he said. "SharePoint does not obviate the need for security and control, it heightens it, but that comes at a cost – an often unexpected cost."ADNFCR-1861-ID-19051186-ADNFCR
