CMS finds firms will turn toward internal enterprise content management in 2010

by | Dec 15, 2009

CMS says ECM managers will turn inward next year.Firms will turn their focus toward internal content technology applications in their enterprise content management efforts next year, according to a report released Tuesday.

Technology evaluation company CMS Watch predicted in a list of content technology predictions for 2010 that the coming year will see an enterprises lead a client backlash against software vendors as enterprise content management separates from document management, and document services become an integrated component of ECM.

"After a recessionary period where many content technology investments focused on customer-facing systems, in 2010 we will see a renewed focus on internal applications," said CMS Watch founder Tony Byrne.

The report also predicted that next year will see cloud services rise to the forefront, and that internal collaboration technologies will diverge from external collaboration. It said that digital asset management developers will place an emphasis on SharePoint integration rather than geographic expansion.

These findings mostly agree with other recent projections for the enterprise content management industry in 2010. A report by Forrester found that businesses will continue to invest steadily in ECM next year, and that their investments will focus on content search, compliance and sharing.
