Alfresco”s Activiti recognized for open source achievement

by | Jan 19, 2011

Alfresco was one of 10 recipients of the Rookie of the Year award from Black Duck Software.Enterprise content management provider Alfresco recently announced Black Duck Software awarded its Activiti Business Process Management Platform with the Open Source Rookie distinction for 2010.

The Activiti platform, which became available in December, is an independently run open source business process management project designed to operate in cloud computing environments. Distributed under the Apache license, the platform was created to be lightweight and can run any Java application, Alfresco claims.

"Through Activiti’s speedy BPMN 2 process engine that runs in any Java application, on a server, on a cluster or in the cloud, the Alfresco project has become the de facto standard implementation for BPM for business people, developers and system administrators," said Alfresco BPM chief architect Tom Baeyens.

Alfresco has collaborated with the SpringSource division of VMware for the Activiti project.

Black Duck Software announced nine other Rookie of the Year awards for projects covering an array of business needs, including application development, privacy control and file sharing. Other recipients include Diaspora, OpenStack, Cloud9IDE, OpenStack Nova, NuGet, SparkleShare, VoltDB, RapidFTR and ownCloud.
