Alfresco''s new service enables public review by developers and enterprises.Open source enterprise content management provider Alfresco announced a new content management interoperability service designed to enable public review by developers and organizations.

The new OASIS service will be included in Alfresco”s open source Community 3.2 content management software. Its objective will be to provide a common representational state transfer or web services application programming interface that developers can use to create next generation run-anywhere, write-once content and social media applications.

"CMIS will have a profound impact on the content management industry. Now everyone can try CMIS for themselves on Alfresco and contribute to the public review process," said Alfresco chief technical officer John Newton.

The developer said that it will host a content management interoperability virtual training seminar in order to explain the specification and share expertise. Public review for external developers on the new service ends on December 22, 2009. Alfresco is currently extending an open invitation for feedback from potential users and developers.

Alfresco is an open source enterprise content management developer founded in 2005 and based in Maidenhead, United Kingdom. The company offers solutions for records, knowledge, web content, imaging, document and collaboration management.
